Michaela my Cupcake baby hat

I am so happy with my latest project. I haven't listed it for sale yet but already have 2 orders from the 2 people I have shown it to. \o/
My daughter in law Michaela is a great cake baker especially cupcakes. she is also pregnant expecting our 2nd grandchild in April 2016, we don't know the baby gender yet but I just had to make a cupcake hat for baby
(this baby will not be needing any hats I will make sure of that!) I searched on google for a cupcake hat and there were some good examples but they all seemed kinda flat made with just rows of trebles (dc's) I wanted swirls on my hat (well that's what we get with butter cream cupcakes!). I already knew how to create a ribbing effect using front and back post stitches but then came a brainwave!!! a bit of trial and error a bit of unravelling and hey presto I taught myself how to make my front post trebles swirl YAY my hook was hot as I speedily continued to crochet my new hat design and oh my life I love it ;o)
The thing I need to perfect is the "sprinkles" just making a stitch here n there really makes the inside look messy so I am working on that
I'm trying to find a yarn that will change colour within 2 or 3 centimetres and have bold rainbow colours which will make my "sprinkles" easier, tidier and more realistic.
now that I have created the pattern for a newborn baby I plan to create it for all child sizes then write up the pattern to sell as a download on Etsy and Ravelry. So what do you think?

Charlotte, chunky bow baby hat

I'm showcasing my baby Charlotte hat today, its a new design which I have enjoyed designing, I think it will be very popular.

The first one I created was this one using chunky yarn by Stylecraft in cream, magenta and plum, I love love these colours together
Charlotte is a crochet beanie type baby hat. I named it after my grandmother who inspired me to try lots of crafts and to honour the new baby princess!!!...back to the hat...I wanted chunky and pretty so I edged it with a scalloped shell edge then I made crochet bow which is securely sewn on. This hat can be positioned so that the bow is either to the left or the right or even the centre of the head whichever you like the best! Chunky and aran yarn are now very popular these days for baby hats and I can see why! my Charlotte hat has turned out just how I first imagined it. I am well pleased :o)
the Etsy shop shows more photographs of each one!

I created the same hat with the same cream chunky yarn but this time I teamed it with fondant pink chunky yarn, it's all down to personal choice we all have our favourite colours!
I make this hat in many colour combo options, if you don't see the colour you desire in the listing then just contact me via Etsy Convo and I will see if I have or can obtain the yarn in the colour you requested. so here we have the striped version of the Charlotte hat but some folk don't like stripes!!! no worries......
NO STRIPES
Here we have two Charlotte hats without stripes
This pure white version of the Charlotte hat displays just one colour throughout, it is the very same hat but looks so different without stripes and aditional colour, so sweet!

This white Charlotte hat is without stripes but is accented with fondant pink scalloped shell edge and bow

please note, I use a polystyrene ball to display my hats, it is not the perfect head shape but at least gives an idea

Welcome To My Happy Craftiness Blog

Here's the first post of my new crochet blog.
I decided this year, after a lot of encouragement (pushing) from family & friends to sell my crochet creations. I have been crocheting for many many years as the art of crochet was passed down from my grandmother and mother. Creativity is in my genes, I cannot remember ever seeing my mother or grandmother without some sort of craft going on, they were always making something, knitting was my grandmothers main hobby, she had a knitting machine and she did a lot of embroidery too. My mother was an artist, she did some fabulous work using oil paints she also made some very fine crochet doilies and crosses using a teeny tiny hook they were both florists too. I had a very inspiring childhood!
I find crochet very therapeutic, it helps as a stress buster for me. like my mother and grandmother I can't sit and do nothing, it's just not in my nature! so here I am enjoying my love of crochet! and hopefully producing lovely items for you to give as gifts or enjoy for youself and your children.
